Windows 2003 Server file get randomly deleted

Win2k3 Server Sp2, used as a file and print server. No frills box. Has McAfee AV (check the logs, no files moved or deleted). Users have been complaining that files are missing. Its a community shared area and more times than not this is usually a problem between the chair and keyboard but too many people have been complaining about it to blow it off. the burden of proof has fallen on me. how can i possbily investigate where these files went and if deleted who did so?
