Running Win2k3 Server and XP virtually

Hello

I have successfully installed win2k3 server enterprise edition and winxp pro through vmware. these 2 virtual operating systems are currently configured as bridged for their network connections. my dlink router is assigning them ip addresses and they are on the same subnet as i am in - 192.168.0.1/24

i would like  these 2 virtual machines to be on their own segment - ie  no connection to router's segment. i would like to work on a client server environment. i want to run my own dhcp and dns service on win2k3.

how would i go about this on vmware workstation 6.0 under network connections? i would appreciate your responses.

Open "Manage Virtual Networks"

Click on the "Host virtual Adapters" tab

Click the "add..." button and choose the VMNet adapter to add, remember this number, then click ok.

Click "Apply"

Click on the "DHCP" tab and select the VMNet adapter you just added and click "Remove" to disable DHCP

Then within you virtual machines, edit the network configuration and change to the new vmnet adapter you just installed.

Done.

i have vmnet1 and vmnet8 listed under the "Host virtual Adapters" tab.

i added vmnet3 and. removed it from the DHCP tab.

i have win2k3 on static ip, manual configuration. i will now be setting up the services so that the client can be "served". i will let you know by tomorrow. hope xp gets an ip from win2k3's dhcp and not the d-link router.

it does not work.

here is my setup: i am running win2k3 virtually on machine 1. xp pro is running virtually on machine 2. i cannot have two virtual machines running on the same physical machines as it is extremely slow.

machine 1 and machine 2 are connected to my router.

thanx bart. i managed to get both virtual machines running on a single physical machine. both are under the same virtual adapter (vmnet3) and everything is working well in the client/server environment.

i have another question regarding internet connectivity. with vmnet3, the virtual segment is separate from my physical segment but i would like internet on both LANs.

physical segment: 192.168.0.0 - default gateway 192.168.0.1
virtual segment: 192.168.1.0 - default gateway 192.168.1.1

i am running AD, DHCP and DNS on Win2k3 which is 192.168.1.1 - my domain controller.

how would i go about creating a link between these 2 LANs in terms of routing tables, DNS forwarding?
