Virtual Machines turn off when Server user logs off

I have a problem with VMWare server. The servers are up and running, but if users log off the Server, the virtual machines turn off. Is there a setting to keep the virtual servers running whenever the container server is running. Please get back to me if you have more info. Thanks

VMware runs as a service that you connect to using the vmware server console, but the actual machines are started in the service.  The console will quit when you log off, but the windows service certainly shouldn't.

There isn't a vmware 1.2 - 1.0.4 is the latest.  Are you sure you are running vmware server and not something else?  VMWare workstation behaves in the way you are describing, but the latest version of that is 6...

I meant we are running VMWare server 1.0.1 or 1.0.2
We are definitely running VMWare server, if I log myself off the container server, the virtual machines on the server are logged off. Is there a way to have the virtual machines continue running while the container server is on. All the VMWare services seem to be running and are set on automatic. What can be the problem.

If you not stop the services, all the VMs will still working when you log off. Log of will never shut down the VMs

Check the each of the Virtual Machine settings under the Options tab -> Startup/Shutdown

The settings under startup / shutdown only control if the machine starts automatically... they don't have control what happens when a user logs on or off... I can't imaging that would be the problem.  The vmware service its self must be stopping... which is really weird.

How do you know, btw, that the machines are stopping?

What OS are you running as the host and guest?

Connect with the remote console instead of the local host. When connecting to your local server, and when you detach, the vm is powered off. When connecting remote to you localserver (connect to you localserver with the remote host option.) and when you detach the server will stay on.

you must use local system credentials to start your vm
on vmware server and vmware workstation 5.x  (version 6 don't have this option)
- select your vm in vmware workstation/server
- clic edit virtual machine settings
- clic option tab
- select startup/shutdown
- in the "virtual machine account" area , select local system account.
 (do not use option "user that power on the vm" because on user logoff , the vm is shut down)

also verify in the startup/shutdown option area that  the " host startup" option  is set to,"power on virtual machine"
otherwise your vm will stay off if the host is restarted

Mtrento's solution is accurate. When you make the virtual machine use local system or another account the virtual machine stays powered on after the local user is logged off.
