VMWare virtual server unable to communicate with servers other than the host

Asked by GallionsHA in VMware

Tags: VMWare, VMWare Server, 1.0.4, Windows 2003

I installed VMWare Virtual Server 1.0.4 on a Windows 2003 server which is on a domain. Now the virtual server is a windows 2000 one. The network IP range is 172.16.x.x and the virtual machine is picking up the correct network IP along with the subnet mask.
I can ping the host from the virtual machine and vice versa, but that's about it. I am unable to ping any other server on the domain from the virtual server, no issues of course from the host. Tried pinging by IP and name, nothing. I also gave the virtual server a static IP, included the DNS server IP's, still nothing. I tried setting the gateway to the host (just in case), still nothing.
This is all after I installed Microsoft Virtual Server (exactly the same issue), reinstalled it, same thing, installed VM Ware, same thing again, wiped the server completely, and here I am.
What could be causing this?
Many thanks
