The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. What is the simplest/cheapest hardware I can use with ESX Server 3.x

I am just starting to study and learn VMWare ESX Server 3.x and I would like to install the product to do some hands on as I am readying. My question is this. What is the simplest (least expensive) hardware I can install VMWare ESX 3.x on and still have it function well. This will just be for my use in a lab environment. I have available to use an Intel platform server (intel Server Board with 2 Dual core Xeon CPU's and 4 GB memory, it also has 4 SATA drives attached to a 3Ware controller card). If I could use this as my foundation and add to this that would be greaat, but if I need to start from scratch, that would be ok also.
