Working on a hard drive image...

Asked by Unimatrix_001 in VMware, Drivers

Hi,

I'd like to create an image of a hard drive of a server we are hosting in another country to a USB hard drive. I'd then like it sent over to me to work on. So, problems:

1) Can I restore the server image to a virtual machine (we own Active@ Disk Image and VMWare 6.0) so I can work on the image locally?

2) Since I'm restoring an image to my computer, how do I handle installing drivers so I can run the image on my computer and then removing those drivers when recreating an image of the fixed system so I can send it back down to the server?

3) Also, I'll need to put the server drivers back on before I recreate the image, so that the server can run without needing drivers put on it that weren't on the fixed image. This may conflict with the drivers I install from step 2?

4) Is it possible using the software I mentioned in step 1 to recreate an image of the virtual machine, put that on a hard drive and send back to the server to restore it?

Thanks,
