We have a bootable USB stick housing a Linux install with VMWare Server and a VM of a licenced MS Windows XP installation on another USB (we previously used a BartPE, but updating the tools in the ISO is too lengthy). We use these as tools for diagnostics. We have hit sufficiently different architectures that the VM of MS Windows XP has elected for the need to reactivate on more than one occasion (thankfully we've not had reason for using it often - the Linux USB install suffices on most occasions). I was under the impression that using a VM would keep the architecture of the VM static. We've now hit the maximum reactivations for that licence. I don't want to re-licence the VM (it's the last from the action pack we have) unless I can prevent this occurring in future.
Is there an option in VMWare Server to force the architecture of the VM? Alternatively, is there a different VM product (VMWare or otherwise) which forces such?
For the time being, we're back to the BartPE ISO. ;)
