With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. Creating a datastore in esx3.5

have a problem createing a datastore.

testing ESX3.5 on a single SATA drive, I am not sure if SATA is supported, in that ESX installed okay, seems to run okay.but if I go into the console, I am unable to add a datasote.

on the server I created a a partition with type FB, which was not listed in the fdisk options, but I am unable to use the
vmkfstools -C vmfs3 /vmware/devices/disks/vmhba0:0:0:0  to create it. The partition is /dev/hda6, 140GB in size.

I do not see the vmhba when I look for it with any of the exscfg- commands.
so, can ESX
1) support SATA drives at all
2) can the datastore be on the same drive as the ESX OS.
3) or what am I doing wrong.
