Question

can't get 2 NIC's to work on VMware workstation 6.0

Asked by: g-techforce

I have a new installation of vmware ws 6.0.
Here is my setup:

Host PC has 2 NICS
NIC 1 is Internet connection to cable modem and set to Dynamic IP
Nic 2 is lan connection and set to 192.168.1.4

VMware Guess needs 2 NICS
Nic 1 is internet connection and set to dynamic ( i want it to get ip from cable modem)
Nic 2 is lan connection and set to 192.168.1.250

I cant seem to get both the nics working. When i make NIC 1 the default bridge, I can get NIC 1 to work and surf the web, but then NIC2 wont respond. If i make NIC 2 the default bridge, i can ping NIC2 from any other pc on my network, but wont get an external ip from cable modem.

I have attached pictures of my settings, what am i doign wrong? I have very little vmware experience so im sure its something im doing.

that is #1 -> vmnet0 and #1 -> vmnet1

The 1st bridge is what happens on your host, the second 'bridge' (which you don't want) is for the VM itself.

Your VM5.jpg shows the configuration of the network cards on the virtual machine.

Change both network cards to 'custom' and select vmnet0 for #1 and vmnet1 for #2.

Do you have admin access to your cable modem? You might need to allow your VM's mac address to get an ip address.
