Have you installed the VMware tools on the Virtual pc ?
With the installation of VMware tools it installs specific drivers.

USB device not detected in VMware virtual pc
This is using windows 2003 server, with virtual pc - windows xp setup using vmware. usb device can be detected in windows 2003 but not virtual pc.
Any help is appreciated!

if you're using VMWare Workstation / Server, simply install VMTools, boot your VM, plug your USB device in, goto "VM" menu in VMWare Workstation/Server interface, go to "Removable Devices" menu and select from the list your USB deviice. it will "unplug" the device from you host machine and will plug it in your vm machine.

VMWare has its own drivers for all the hardware in your computer.So this could be one of the problems.
Also, im not sure how compatible vmware is with Windows server 2003.
