that model is not supported by esxi 4
you can verify yourself at www.vmware.com/go/hcl

moeshakir - Before taking up any installation of VMware Software in future, I suggest that you take a look at the VMware HCL for Hardware Compatibility.

Poweredge 850 was reported as working in ESXi 3.5.

I don't know what the onboard nics of this server is, but it's usually safe to get yourself an intel e1000 nic or three if the onboard ones are not working in ESXi I would however recommend you to use a server from the HCL if this is for production use.

by: ryder0707Posted on 2009-06-25 at 15:41:34ID: 24716680

1850 will work just fine

by: ryder0707Posted on 2009-06-25 at 15:42:41ID: 24716687

but for 850 probably u need to get a supported PCI NIC

by: moeshakirPosted on 2009-06-25 at 15:44:20ID: 24716701

is there any other Vmware os will work on my 850?

by: ryder0707Posted on 2009-06-25 at 15:46:31ID: 24716709

I've checked hcl dell 850 is not supported in any vmware version

by: larstrPosted on 2009-06-29 at 00:32:14ID: 24734172

There's a slight difference between supported and working.

Dell PE 850 is reported to be working even though it's not on the HCL. Non-supported hw should be fine for testing, but if you're setting up a production environment you also want a setup that you can tell VMware Support about when you call in with a problem.

If you need a working nic, you can get one for ~$20.

by: ryder0707Posted on 2009-06-29 at 08:55:37ID: 24737353

yes becoz it is fully supported under esx

by: ryder0707Posted on 2009-06-29 at 09:27:54ID: 24737612

well before buying anything, it is highly recommended to check www.vmware.com/go/hcl
very easy to use, select product type & esx version then click search

moeshakir,

To combat this sitaultion, i'd suggest that you use an intel or braodcom network adapter and see if it resolves your issues. Please use the network cards as per HCL, i am sure you can get it relatively cheap and resolve your networking issues.

If it resolves your issues, you can disable the onboard network adapter on your server(BIOS)

thanks
