Convert ESXI vmware image to a standard image.

I have a vmWare ESXI image that I would like to be able to use on my laptop. Is there a way I can convert this or create an image from the other image?

Download vmware converter from http://www.vmware.com/download/converter/getconverter.html
It can do hot/cold conversion of VM to VM, just register to download it for free

Install it on your laptop, select the source VM from your esxi, then select where you want to store the converted VMs, very easy to use, all wizard driven

I tried the converted but got the following error:
the vmware consolidated backup source has a missing catalogue file.

what is the format of the image? how did you create it?

I created it by stopping the image and going to the datastore and downloading it to disk. Please see the attached file for the format of the files.

You cant convert like that
You need to set the soure to "vmware infrastructure virtual machine", specify the esxi ip address & credential to start the conversion remotely

I tried this. It did seem to get a bit further. It was trying to retrieve information from the image but i got a timeout error.

Is there any log files stored that i can upload to give more information?

You can find the logs here C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\VMware\VMware vCenter Converter Standalone\logs
Look for the latest one
