I agree with ryder, use vmware workstation with ESX hosts and configure openfiler as a virtual machine that will emulate iSCSI SAN

The cheapest hardware for home ESXi lab
Hi gurus,
I'm very interested in ESXi, so I would like to create home lab environment for my own.
Is there any recommandations? dell, hp, IBM... all vendor and even bare-born is welcomed, if it has cost efficiency.

The cheapest is always vSphere on vmware workstation, the latest vmware workstation 7 fully supported to run vsphere
Get the most powerful PC with fast cpu & lots of ram, 8GB or more is cheap these days
Most modern mobo can easily support 16GB ram on 4 ddr2/ddr3 slots
You can do everything in a single box, you can use Openfiler/FreeNas as your shared storage to test all the vSphere advance features including vmotion, vmha, FT, etc...
