Vmware standalone convertor error
Hi all,
Trying to use the standalone convertor on a dell R710 Server 2008 R2 ENT. When i run the wizard it fails quite rapidly with the following error:
FAILED: Unable to create a VSS snapshot of the source volume(s). Error code:
2147754754 (0x80042302).
Any ideas?
I have also tried cold boot but it cannot find the NIC.

how big are the disks you are trying to migrate? How much space is left on those disks?
Please update the Service which is being provided by the physical server
(SQL / Exchange / IIS / Domain Controller)

As per my understanding, you have installed the Standalone Converter on the physical box and running the wizard from the physical box itself.
Please correct me if I am wrong with my assumptions.

The Microsoft KB specifies the issue for Windows XP.
Does it apply to Windows Server 2008 R2 as well ?

Are you trying to convert the box to 32-bit hardware? Make sure your destination is 64-bit (enable Intel-VTd or AMD-V in the BIOS).
On a VMware Community thread, 1 poster who had this issue, used this MS KB to help resolve the problem:
