advice on P2V of an Exchange server.
I have a question about migrating one of our Exchange servers to Virtual. here is the set up.
we have 4 Exchange servers, ill list the roles to the best of my knowledge.
Exchange 1. looks to be the certificate server...
Exchange 2. one of the OWA servers.
Exchange 3. one of the OWA servers (this is the server that will be migrated)
Exchange 4. this is the main mailbox store.
now, Exchange 3. is an old HP Proliant DL360, one of the hard drives is failing. so i installed the VMware converter and did the P2V conversion already...
my question is.. is there anything i need to know, or do before i "flip the switch" and turn off the physical server, and power on the Virtual server... Im still kind of new to this process, and dont want any down time as a result of this.
please let me know if there might be anything that could bite me if I forget to do it, or do it wrong..
thanks for your help!!

Yes, I would Redo, as you do not know what state your converted Exchange Server is in! (especially with the others!).

Do I need to remove the servers account from AD? or do anything else on the networking side of things?
No Need to remove from AD.
Shutdown as Many Services as possible. (set to manual, especially all the Exchange Services).
Remove as many HP Agents and Software as possible.

this might sound like a silly question, but you mean remove any HP software using add/remove programs? and besides the Exchange services, what else should i shut down in services?

ok, I have another quick Question. Im reading the article that you posted, and in the pre req section it says I need the P2V Scripts.... where do I get these from? i do not have any VMware CD.. im running V-Sphere from my local computer to connect to the VM server.. it says I need the scripts to copy the netwrok and other settings from the Physical to the VM..
ASKER
i have no problem doing that if you think its a good idea.
thanks
