Is it possible to virtualize an AIX machine in vmware?
Hello:
I have AIX installed on an old computer which we still use. For this reason I'd like to virtualize it if at all possible. If not, what other options do I have to create a clone of the disk or to move the OS and the programs to a SUN server that we have but do not use?
thanks in advance,
Joseph

That PowerVM requires an IBM AIX Power CPU system to run on.
The smallest machine currently marketed by IBM is the Power 710.
Here is IBM's offer, at at basic price of ~ $$ 6000.

You need AIX and PowerVM ($$ 1200 + 300 + PowerVM, price on requesr to IBM):

You could search ebay or some other internet platform for used, older machines like p520, which might be cheaper. Take care to have AIX and PowerVM included when buying one.
PowerVM is in a way similar to VMware, but with a quite different "look and feel":

Pricewise in Eur, what could this run? Just to have a general idea, including the smallest server possible and the software to run "PowerVM". What is it like? Is it similar in appearance to VMWare?
thanks for the great input.
