add disks to HP P2000 G3
greetings,
I have 4 empty slots in my P2000. I would like to add 4 disks and construct a RAID 10 array. Will this affect performance, or anything else, regarding my existing RAID 10 using the other 8 disks? Should I do this after hours or can I do it now so it can get started?

I am building a new RAID 10, not adding to the existing RAID 10. I already went and added them to the unit. However, the GUI does to show them and it has been about 30 minutes. The lights are not on for the new disks. do I need to rescan the disk channels? Will that affect my existing RAID 10 and the VMs running on them?

OK. Issue is I don't even see the new disks I put in. The GUI doesn't show them and the lights are not on like they are for my existing disks. I don't mind waiting but I can't even start the process because the GUI doesn't see them. do I run the rescan disk channels option? that is what I meant about affecting my production disks. I wasn't sure if rescanning would essentially stop them and mess up my VMs.

Yes, re-scan, it should see your new disks. They've not been added as spares to the existing array?

found this in the manual. they still aren't showing. guess I'll have to do after hours and pause or shutdown the VMs when I do so. Suggestions?
Rescanning disk channels
A rescan forces a rediscovery of disks and enclosures in the storage system. If both Storage Controllers are
online and able to communicate with both expansion modules in each connected enclosure, rescan also
reassigns the enclosure IDs of attached enclosures based on controller A’s enclosure cabling order. A
manual rescan may be needed after system power-up to display enclosures in the proper order. A manual
rescan temporarily pauses all I/O processes, then resumes normal operation. It can take up to two minutes
for the enclosure IDs to be corrected.
A manual rescan is not needed after inserting or removing disks; the controllers automatically detect these
changes. When disks are inserted they are detected after a short delay, which allows the disks to spin up.

I don't think so. the lights aren't even on yet and nothing in the GUI

this took several hours. I didn't even check back until the next morning but there they were. didn't need to rescan or reboot.
Are you creating a new RAID10 with 4 disks, or adding 3 disks to exsiting 8?
The P2000 is not the fatest at rebuilding, and also ensure you have Hot Spares or Cold Spares because the rebuild stresses the existing disks and they can fail!
