Have a look at this netapp thread. And there is another thread regarding this recent task problem. It seems you have to restart the whole vCenter machine or the host which runs the task.

Thanks - I have already seen those 2 articles. Still not sure what to do - other than restart VCenter server 5.1
In this KB1013003 article is detailed info how to identify the running tasks. If you can identify them, you can try to kill them too. If that's successful, you don't have to restart the host or the vCenter.

Spot on thanks - for others patience as services slow to start after vcenter restart
hi guys...
Restarting the vcenter service does remove the stale processes.. but it doesnt stop it from happening again.. so this is only a quick fix. not a solution. im still facing the issue and restarting the vcenter everytime is a pain... im still researching this. will post a solution
I am having the same issue.  The time stamp is always 6:00am for all the jobs.  It Appears to be a NetApp Storage Discovery that starts all this and it is not all the ESXi hosts and it is not the same ones each time.  I agree that a restart of the vCenter server makes it go away but it does come back and that is annoying.
Just adding info for future readers.  Lucas Bruch, the NetApp storage discovery hangs if a host in the cluster is in maintenance mode, it will clear once the M.M. is cleared.
