ESXi High i/o latency
I am running ESXi 5.1.0 - 1065491 with locallly attached storage.
I am getting spikes of high I/O and I get this error in the event logs:
Device
naa.600508b100103036453743 3144300a00
performance has deteriorated. I/O latency
increased from average value of 2888
microseconds to 168219 microseconds.
warning
We recently upgrade from ESX 4.0 to ESXi 5.1U1. Where should i be checking to find the culprit for the high IO?
Also I have to try multiple time to login through vsphere, i get the error cannot connect then magically I can authenticate and login.

How frequent is the latency, what type of hardware (raid controller and hard drive speeds). I know its recommended to have a controller with a write cache to prevent the latency and decent hard drives to support the read/write

I would look at upgrading drivers and hardware for the host to HCL

Is the server still under warranty? I had this issue on my Dell server and support pulled logs and told me what would resolve the issue and what is causing it. You might be able to get some pro support to assist if necessary.
Completely normal for slow storage.
What storage are you using, RAID type, disk type etc
