asked on

guests with wrong OS vcheck and vcenter

I am looking at the output of a vcheck script, one of the plugins focuses on guests with incorrect OS:

1.      At what stage during creating a new VM is this OS selected in vCenter?

2.      Does Microsoft Windows Server 2008 R2 (64-bit) exist in the options to select for the new OS in vCenter? Our admin seems to have selected Microsoft Windows Server 2008 (64-bit) as opposed to R2, is that a major issue? I did read that it should be a similar OS if the exact doesn’t exist as an option?

3.      Ultimately what is the risk in selecting the wrong OS? What can go wrong?

4.      Where can you see a list of all OS supported by ESXi 5.1? Are there any major OS that ESXi does not support?
