VMware Converter failing
Trying to convert a physical server. From the server with the converter tool, I can ping the source server and I can browse to the source server. But when I try to convert (either by IP or by Name) I get a connection error. See log below:

Converter is installed on VCenter Server. I can try an install on the physical box and do a local conversion.
All firewalls are off.
Using 5.5.0
Windows OS 2003 Enterprise
It is failing when I point to the server (using IP address, not name), It never even starts the process. It happens if I click Next or View Source Details.

It's always recommended to install Converter, on the server you are converting.
Also always ensure you are using the latest, download and replace with 5.5.1

I have downloaded 5.5.2 which is the latest version. It allows me to setup the job now, but when I hit finish I get an error that states the local machine can not connect with the host. However, I can ping the host from local machine and when it sets up the job, it did connect to the host because it showed all the current VM's on the host and the space available on the host.
Yes, 5.5.2 was released yesterday to fix the OpenSSL issue.
There is a network issue, communications issue.
Try disabling SSL.

If I go to the VCenter Server it actually shows an orphaned VM with the same server name. The summary information is correct, it just never finished the conversion. But there isn't a folder in the datastore with that server name.
Yes, SSL is disabled on Converter, see my EE Article posted above.
Are you converting directly to vCenter Server, I just noticed a root account being used?
Yes, it can happen, it starts to create the VM, but never finishes, and cannot delete the VM.
So just delete it and start again.

I am converting a Windows Server 2003 physical box. In you FAQ doc, I see this note:
20. I'm trying to P2V a Windows Server 2003, but it fails?
To P2V a Windows Server 2003 you will need to use VMware vCenter Converter Standalone 5.0. Support for Windows Server 2003 has been removed from VMware vCenter Converter Standalone 5.1 and 5.5.
Does this mean I need to uninstall the 5.5.2 and install 5.0?
Also you mention that you posted an article above with instruction on disabling SSL on the coverter. I am not finding it. Can you tell me which article I should be looking at?

Yes, 5.0 is the only version with 2003 support.

Removed converter 5.5.2. Installed converter 5.0 Disabled SSL per your instructions above.
Ran converter and received the following error :
"A general system error occurred: unknown internal error"
The Log shows :
Found dangling SSL error: [0] error:00000001:lib(0):func (0):reason (1)

the above error is normally shown for most P2V/V2V which complete successfully.
It's something else...
Is the Windows 2003 server using Dynamic disks?
you will need to upload all the logs...
