Accessing fresh install of ESXi

Sorry basic question. Vsphere knowledge is limited.
Normally, I use vpshere client to connect to our existing Vcenter server.

Got a test where someone is coming along with a clean install ESXi host.

Questions are:-

1. Can I just RDP in to this machine to get access to Vsphere? Or is it more complicated than this?

2. Once on, I need to import VMs from USB drive. Can I just plug in?

Ok. So Im going to have one ESXi server and one Windows 2008 server which should be networked.

I guess plan would be to install vsphere client on the windows 2008 server so I can access ESXi (do I need  a vcenter server also?). Then I can copy the VMs from USB onto windows 2008 server and import them?
NO requirement for vCenter Server, for a single ESXi server, it's only used for management, and OTT for a single ESXi server.

Yes, that will work fine.
