Virtualization using VMware product

I am planning to learn by settings up some virtual machines using the VMware product. For a start could you please suggest me what sort of VMware product do I need to first download like VMware server, ESXi etc&.
To learn I am planning to setup 1 PC with good spec with 4 GB of RAM, 1TB of HDD and with good processor. Could you please recommend me the program that I need to get so that I can download and install to learn virtualization. I hope VMware does have free product/trial.
Can I convert current machine into the virtual machine, I mean I have windows 2003 server, would like to convert it into the virtual machine
