Using Hyper-V to pass COM ports and USB ports
We have just created a virtual server using Windows Server 2008 with Hyper-V. Now we're trying to figure out how to get the virtual machine to communicate with the physical ports. We can see there are areas to add details to the named pipes for COM ports, but can't figure out how to name those pipes and/or get them to actually communicate with the physical ports. In addition, we hear that it may be impossible to connect to the system's USB ports, but since that sounds so incredible (given the usefullness of USB ports these days), I wanted to check on that process as well.
Any help would be appreciated.

You will not be able to use the host usb ports with the guest VMs. There is a post here that shows a workaround to use RDP to connect into the VM and use usb ports temporarily: http://www.markwilson.co.u
In Hyper-V, the use of the physical COM ports is also unavailable.
If those are options that you must have, I would look at using VMWare Workstation or Server.
