Did you try to convert it remotely or did you try to convert using "this machine" option?

If all else fails download a trial copy of Symantec Backup Exec System Recovery or Acronis TrueImage.  Image the system and use vConverter to convert the image.

Hi ryder0707, i tried both and it still doesn't work.

Hi Paulsolov, I have acronis trueimage server. Do you mean vConverter can convert the image directly?

by: paulsolovPosted on 2009-10-31 at 19:12:24ID: 25712373

that is correct. You can convert a trueimage directly to a VM, vConverter knows the format natively.

Do you have license to use vconverter bootcd instead? It is more reliable to do cold conversion

I'm holding a Vsphere Essential Plus License. Got 2 ESXi server in HA mode. If i were to convert from Acronis, how do I do it after I image the server? How do I bring the image over to the ESXi converter? Same process as the normal vcenter usage? Sorry I'm a nood in these.

by: paulsolovPosted on 2009-11-01 at 06:07:47ID: 25713719

This is the same as a physical server.  Use VMware converter to point to the image as the source and your vCenter as the destination (or ESX host for that matter).

Hi Paul, I tried that but it seems I cannot resize the disk if I use an image? Also the disk controller type is IDE and there is no way I can change to SCSI LSI. Is there an issue of booting from ESXi after the convertion if i leave it as IDE?

esx4/esxi4 supports ide disk, it should work fine
