VMWare Workstation - MS SQL Server 2005 Express Instalation Fails & Crashes

I am using VMWare 6.5 Workstation.  I have a VM that is Windows XP Pro and am trying to install MS SQL Server 2005 Express.  Every time I run the install it terminates in the middle of the install.  I then need to return to a prior snapshot. It makes it impossible to install software that requires SQL Server 2005.  Any suggestions would be helpful.

I have installed .NET 2.O
I have also set the Machine to use 1 GB of Memory and 15 GB of Storage.
