Vmware ESX / Backup Exec 12.5 / WIndows 2008 x64 / Exchange 2007

Hello -

I need some assistance with the following:

I need to be able to backup the vmware esx server, i hvae followed the document here:
http://seer.entsupport.symantec.com/docs/310740.htm

but i dont see a mention of the vmware tools being installed on the media server, i understand this to be a requirement, as well as i might need to "Freeze" and "Thaw" the vm.

I have never backed up a vmware server before (now i am using the raws agents) to bakup the actual machines virtual themselves.

can anyone provide a document from vmware (or symantec) that covers more of the backup requirments and also one that explains freeze and thaw (with some clarity).

Backup exec is isntalled on the exchange (2007 sp1) server.
