Question

Windows 7 won't install on Citrix XenServer

Asked by: markusdamenous

Has anybody successfully installed Windows 7 Beta on Citrix XenServer 5?

It starts the install process, and then hangs at "Starting Installation".  The CPU usage is high, but nothing appears to get written to the Virtual Disk.

I have noticed the same issue. It looks like we have to wait for an update before we can install it like this. Windows 7 Beta does install on VMWare ESXi though.

Found the solution on the citrix forums:
Execute this command on the console of the xenserver (you can use putty to connect via SSH).

xe vm-param-set uuid=<vmuuid> platform:viridian=false

<vmuuid> can be obtained using the command: xe vm-list

One thing to be aware of, DO NOT install the XenTools.  Citrix have confirmed that they WILL BLUE SCREEN when installed on Windows 7 at present.
