Question

XenCenter

Asked by: ccaseyhns

I have a Xen Pool with two servers.
My issue is the usage info only shows for the first XenServer not the second.
Any thoughts? I tried clearing the cache for XenCenter but things remained the same..

By usage info, I'm assuming you mean the information that is found on the "Search" tab (version 5.5).  Click on the pool, and not a server in the list on the left.  Click on the "Search" tab for the pool, and you should see both servers and all VM's listed in the right side of the window.

Nope, that works fine showing both servers..
However only the stats (CPU usage, drive space etc..) for the first server appear active.
The second server in the pool shows zero activity and there are several VM's running on it.

could you post a screen shot?

Here is the screen shot requested

Hmmmm, that looks like an XAPI issue.  I'm assuming that if you live migrate one of those VM's onto the other server, it shows the information correctly?  If so, that means XAPI is fine on the guests.

Try restarting XAPI on the command line for the server in question.  Hit the tab on the server for "Console".  Hit enter to get a prompt.  Then just type:

service xapi restart

Try that, and post any errors or output that command gives you.

No dice and no errors..

[root@xen2 ~]# service xapi restart
Stopping xapi: ..                                          [  OK  ]
Starting xapi: ..start-of-day complete.                    [  OK  ]
[root@xen2 ~]#

This is truly a puzzle...

Also i tried the following...Did get one error

[root@xen2 ~]# killall -9 xapi
[root@xen2 ~]# service xapi stop
Stopping xapi: Error: Connection refused (calling connect )
                                                          [  OK  ]
[root@xen2 ~]# service xapi start
Starting xapi: .start-of-day complete.                     [  OK  ]
[root@xen2 ~]# service xapi restart
Stopping xapi: ..                                          [  OK  ]
Starting xapi: ..start-of-day complete.                    [  OK  ]

Indeed it is.  Are there any differences that you can think of between the two servers?  They are pooled, so they at least need to have the same processors.

In answer to my previous question, if you live migrate a VM to the other server, does it display its stats?

by: ccaseyhnsPosted on 2009-09-25 at 13:06:18ID: 25426766

No they are the same server make and model.

>>In answer to my previous question, if you live migrate a VM to the other server, does it display its stats?
Yes the guest VM shows stats on Xen1 but not Xen2.

OK, let me hit a developer and see if they have seen this issue before.

by: ccaseyhnsPosted on 2009-09-29 at 11:26:22ID: 25451798

Ok I resolved it.
Apparently the NTP was not in sync across the pool.
Changed the NTP servers to match and restarted the NTP service.
All stats appeared.

Ack.  How often the simplest solution is the one you are searching for.  Good to know for future reference.  Glad you got it fixed up.
