Running Naturally Speaking Often causes Dr Watson errors

I have a Windows XP SP2 system with 1 GB of RAM. Lately, when running Dragon's Naturally Speaking voice recognition software, it works perfectly for a while and then my system freezes, producing a Dr Watson error.

I then have to do a forced shutdown because everything ceases to function.

Can you help determine how to solve whatever is causing this? Thanks.

The version of Dragon NaturallySpeaking that I use is 9.10, service pack 1. I have checked the links that you provided (thank you, by the way) and the tech notes of supposed fixes can't be found in the knowledge base; possibly because they were noted as of 2006.

In any case the next time it happens I will take note of what Dr. Watson indicates. Thanks again for your help.
Well, "unfortunately" I have an update... which means I had DNS running again and first I got an error message about Windows Explorer having to shut down; followed by the infamous Dr. Watson; followed by me bringing up the task manager attempting to take screenshots but everything locked up before I could save the document.

Prior to the problem, DNS was running smoothly (which is often the situation, right before it crashes). I did manage to pull up task manager and get a few readings before everything locked up. Here is the most interesting, I think...

A process called oaui.exe had over 14 million page faults.

Hopefully the Dr. Watson error will explain something useful because I'm using DNS more frequently now and this is really starting to get annoying.

And/or look into Event Viewer (Start|Administrative Tools|Event Viewer). Click on "System" in the left panel. Do you see RedBall error icon(s) timestamped when the problem occurred?   If so, click on the RedBall. The first message will have some data on what the problem is, but usually it is not too easy to understand. Click the blue go.microsoft.com link.  Send a report to Microsoft.  Another window should open (though it may take some time) which may offer some more understandable info and maybe even a solution.

I didn't get a chance to click on the link before PC froze. I've read the log and it seemed to imply a problem with a recent software application I downloaded (My Free Website Maker). So, I uninstalled it, and before I got a chance to download and reinstall, PC froze again.

If I send you the Dr. Watson log, would that help figure out the issue/solution?

I'm including the file, and I do not have Event Viewer option. The path I used was:Start/control panel/administrative tools ... no choice for Event Viewer. How can I load it back? I don't ever recall having it before and definitely never used it.

You should have Event Viewer on your WinXP PC.  The file is eventvwr.msc and it should be accessible from a command prompt if nothing else.  You could create a shortcut for it with the Target "%SystemRoot%\system32\eventvwr.msc /s"  (no quote marks needed).
Well, well...

The eventvwr.msc file was located under C/windows/system32. Actually, there are 2 - 1 is an "Application" and 1 is "Microsoft Common Console Document."

Should there be both? Should I move them to be accessible under Control Panel, and if so, what would be the best way to do that? If having a shortcut is OK, which one should I make a shortcut of?

I opened up the Event Viewer and under the Application section, I had about 2 dozen errors in the last 2-3 days. I'm starting to get very scared. Should I be?

I'm attaching 2 event viewer files: 1 with all records and 1 with just the errors. I looked at a few using the process you suggested and don't really have a clue of:

1. What I'm looking at
2. How serious it is
3. What is causing the problem
4. How to correct the problem

What should I do? I'm hiding under my kitchen table now.

photoman11--I am glad you found Event Viewer.  
Now you should follow the directions I provided earlier on how to get the detailed error info on a red ball that coincides with the EXACT TIME when the system froze.   Start with a few of the most recent.  Post at least the Event ID # and the Source info.  
What you have provided above is just the initial Event Viewer list and does not give much info.  I think you will see that the second EV window (after you have clicked the blue go.microsoft link and sent the report to MS) provides much more intelligible info and possibly a solution.
I only have one eventvwr.MSC file on my PC.  (I think the other one you found is eventvwr.EXE.)  Use either one.  Clicking on either will open Event Viewer.  The simplest way to make a shortcut is to right click on the eventvwr.msc file|Create Shortcut.  Put the shortcut whereever convenient.  I am surprised you do not have Event Viewer in Administrative Tools, but if you do not the shortcut works just fine.
photoman11--I meant to add that the DrWatson log suggests the problem is with My Free Web Site Builder and not Naturally Speaking.  Assuming you have reinstallation media for My Free Web Site Builder you might try uninstalling it and see if the problem continues.  If so then uninstall Naturally Speaking and reinstall.
Do you have My Free Web Site Builder running all the time?  Especially when also running Naturally Speaking?  If so, I think I would turn My Free Web Site Builder off except when it is the program you want to run.
You might try these ideas before working with Event Viewer.

Thanks. First off, My Free Web Site Builder is NOT RUNNING 95% of the time, and rarely at the same time as DNS. I clicked deeper into a few messages, and had some trouble understanding what they were saying and had no understanding of whatever their suggestions were.

I had uninstalled My Free Web Site Builder a few days ago after reading about it in the file and haven't yet reloaded it.

I realize you are quite familiar with Event Viewer and diagnosing problems, but it is brand new to me and somewhat confusing... actually, very confusing (part of why I use the EE services).

Because of all the errors I see in the file, I'm still wondering

1. How serious it is
2. What to do about it

I'm a babe in the woods here and don't have a clue.

Somehow, errors with window's explorer are involved too because on most of the crashes, I also received error messages about explorer. It happened again yesterday so I captured some screen prints (see attached files).

Can you please lead me through fixing this? Thanks, as always.

It really is not possible to answer until you get more info on the problem.  I am not saying understanding Event Viewer is easy (and certainly DrWatson is not), but I did think my procedure for Event Viewer was fairly detailed.  But you are not getting to the important second window.  Please print out my procedure and go through it carefully.  
We need the diagnostic info available.
P.S.  Note also that you are getting lots of "click here" options, but I am not sure you are using them, either.
P.P.S.  Did you uninstall and reinstall DNS?

I'm attaching screen prints of what I'm hoping are the "2nd window" you referred to. Please tell me what I'm supposed to do with them, since it makes no sense to me, even after clicking on the "... go to microsoft" link.

The "second window" is what you get after clicking the blue go.microsoft.com link, sending the report to MS and waiting perhaps as much as 30 seconds.
You have posted two screen shots.  First, did you click on redball errors timestamped exactly when the freeze problem  occurred?  Why two screenshots?  Each indicates a different problem.  One is with DrWatson itself.
photoman11--Something simple for you to try
Start|Run| type in:
sfc /scannow
Hit enter, have xp cd handy
This takes a while, but you should see a progress meter.  At the end, the meter just goes away.  If you are asked to Retry, hit that button as often as reasonably necessary.
What you are doing is replacing corrupt or missing Windows system files.

Sorry it took so long to get back to you, but I have been receiving electroshock therapy for my depression based on this problem. Okay, not really, but it feels like I should.

Well, it happened again today: I was running Dragon naturally speaking and it was operating perfectly for about 45 minutes and then I got the same error message pop up for Windows Explorer as shown in the posting on March 19, above.

I started closing things down, when I then got the same Dr. Watson error message pop up as shown in the March 17 posting. Then my whole system froze and I had to do a forced restart.

Two things occurred...
I did go into the event viewer and got screen prints to the level that you previously suggested; and those files are attached. I will comment about those later on in this post.

The other thing that happened though was after my system came back up, I received a system configuration utility error; which I have also included as an attached file. When I clicked okay on the pop up window, the System Configuration Utility opened I clicked okay; and it indicated that I would need to restart for the changes to take effect.

The were no new changes that I was aware of, but I figured it was from my hard reboot, so I restarted again thinking that would end at. However this time when the system came up, the exact same message displayed. So I don't have a clue what's going on with that - it seems like it's in a loop and I don't know how to break it.

Re: the original issue, I check the event viewer, and I was somewhat amazed to find that there were NO ERRORS LISTED AT THE EXACT TIME OF THE PROBLEM. The problem happened at approximately 2:15 p.m. and the closest errors noted (and it is these errors that I have attached the files for) were at 2:37 p.m..

The first error I looked up was Re: Explorer, and in the explanation it indicated that there might be a 1001 event error close to the original one in the event viewer. This was not the case.

I am attaching the screenshot for the system configuration utility file and four files which are all screenshots of the two error messages that I looked up from the event viewer. Each error has two screenshots-the first when I double clicked on the error, and the second after I clicked the link to go to Microsoft.

I had not yet performed your other suggestions from your last two posts. I wanted you to know this just for continuity of information.

I'm very confused with the fact that this problem pretty much only occurs while I am running Dragon NaturallySpeaking, however the errors on the event viewer do not show that application as causing any errors.

I will await your thoughts and guru-like opinions. As always, I really appreciate your help.

photoman11--I am going to study the Event Viewer info in a little more detail, but thought I would reply promptly on the System Configuration Utility message and solicit a response from you.
That is not an error message.  It means you opened MSCONFIG and made changes.  On reboot you get that message.  Check the box "Don't show this message..." and click OK.  The message will disappear.  The message does not mean you should reboot.  Just ignore it.
If you did NOT open MSCONFIG, post back, since perhaps you have baddies (malware) on the PC.
Also "there were NO ERRORS LISTED AT THE EXACT TIME OF THE PROBLEM."  This probably means the issues reported by Event Viewer are not what is causing your freezing problem.  The only info on that is DrWatson.  As mentioned earlier, I think DrWatson is telling us that myfreewebsitebuilder is the culprit.  I would make sure that myfreewebsitebuilder is not running when you use Naturally Speaking.  They may be incompatible or using too much RAM when run simultaneously.  You should be sure myfreewebsitebuilder is not starting at boot.  THAT is a job for MSCONFIG!!  Start\Run|type MSCONFIG |OK|Startup tab.  Look at the items that have a check mark in the boxes to the left of the line.  Do you see any that involve myfreewebsitebuilder? (You can see a whole Command or Location line by moving the separator between the Command and Location columns.)  If so, uncheck those boxes|Apply|Restart when asked.  You will get that System Configuration Utility message again.  As mentioned, check that box|OK.  Now do you have the freeze problem when you run Naturally Speaking?

Thank you for getting back to me so quickly. I understand the thing about the System Configuration Utility message and I was in there before, so I might have actually made a change. So I guess we can cross that one off the list of immediate concerns.

I think I mentioned before that freewebsitebuilder is in the Komposer application, right? The thing about myfreewebsitebuilder is this:

1. Since the beginning problems, I never run that program while I am running Dragon NaturallySpeaking
2. When I was in the midst of all the problems with this program, I uninstalled it. The interesting thing was I just checked and even though many of the associated folders with that are gone, there are still about 56 folders; equal to around 28 MB still associated with this program on my external hard drive (which is where I'd loaded).
3. I have a.exe zip file for myfreewebsitebuilder sitting on my desktop which I have not yet installed. I downloaded it but have not installed it.now that I think about it, I can't be positive of anything because so many things of that happening. The only thing I know for sure is I have the zip file for the .exe of myfreewebsitebuilder  sitting on my desktop and I have 28 MB worth of files on my external hard drive AFTER GOING THROUGH AN UNINSTALL.

I uninstalled it by executing a file on the hard drive "uninstall.exe"  because when I went to control panel/add/remove program, I could not locate in the indication of the package. I do have a software application that removes stubborn software and I'm wondering if you think I should use that with  this application? If so, should I be deleting the zip file on my desktop in addition to what is the remnants on my hard drive?

4. I don't think there's a ram problem but at this point I'm not sure of anything. I have been using MKN  memory Monitor (which I must submit I don't completely understand the setting: "optimize memory automatically") . If you're not familiar with the package, this setting basically provides a way for the user to determine when they want memory to automatically be optimized. The confusing thing to me is that the range it provides is when LESS THAN 50%-100% of physical memory is available. I would've thought that you would want optimize when the memory was between the 0% and 50%; unless I am not understanding the entire concept.

5. When I verify whether freewebsitebuilder was starting at boot, I did not see any indication of that. However I did see a process called "nvcpl" which I googled and found that the process by itself is safe however certain viruses some times attach themselves to it and go undetected. At that point I downloaded the free copy of the Uniblue Registry Booster, even though I do have and religiously use RegCure.

After running it, it detected 1496 Registry errors and/or problems. I am including a file of their scan log before I correct the problems. I'm wondering if there's any indication in their log of any myfreewebsitebuilder issues.

In any case, let me know if there is anything else you need for analysis.

I will try to respond to your last post as best I can.  Much may not be correct.
I do not believe mywebsitebuilder is part of Komposer.  I think they are separate web development applications. But I am no expert on those apps.
It seems you have many pieces of mywebsitebuilder still on your PC.  That in itself could be part of the problem.  You could try using RevoUninstaller to get rid of the remaining pieces.  http://www.revouninstaller.com/
(If mywebsitebuilder is not listed when you run RevoUninstaller, then not enough remains for Revo to uninstall the pieces.  Then you could INSTALL mywebsitebuilder again to allow Revo to make a full uninstall.)
However Dr. Watson identifies the following plug in for mywebsitebuilder as being part of what is causing the crashes.  C\My Free Web Site Builder\components\gkplugin.dll  You could therefore run a search for gkplugin.dll to see if you still have it and can delete it.  Maybe deleting just that file would help.
Dr. Watson also identifies C:\Program Files\Adobe\Reader 9.0\Reader\plug_ins\MakeAccessible.api as a possible culprit.  You could search for MakeAccessible.api and delete it.
Dr. Watson identifies one other culprit.  C:\WINDOWS\WinSxS\x86_Microsoft.VC80.MFC_1fc8b3b9a1e18e3b_8.0.50727.762_x-ww_3bf8fa05\MFC80.DLL
I am reluctant to suggest you delete MFC80.DLL , since I do not know how that will affect WinSxS.  This is part of Visual Studio 2005.  If you do not use Visual Studio, uninstall it.
nvcpl (presumably nvcpl.exe) is part of your nVidia graphics card software.  Yes, it could be part of malware, but I think you said you scanned for that.
I am not a fan of Registry cleanup applications.  So it is up to you if you want to use them.  It is too easy to remove something important.  I therefore did not study the Uniblue info.
I am not familiar with MKN  memory Monitor .  I do not dispute that it may monitor RAM, though I am not sure what you would do with the information. I think Windows,itself, does a good job of optimizing RAM, so I am little sceptical of another program doing better.  However,  I doubt running it has anything to do with your problem.  On the other hand uninstalling it should not hurt anything.  (Sorry, if you paid for it.)
This is best info I can give you.  (I do not think the EventViewer logs show anything pertinent to your problem.)  
So there are some things for you to do.  Hope that helps.

Think we're making progress...

I did have to reinstall and then completely delete mywebsitebuilder because Revo couldn't find the original remnants. So EVERYTHING is off my PC (I hope).

Found C:\Program Files\Adobe\Reader 9.0\Reader\plug_ins\MakeAccessible.api and deleted it (I assume Adobe Reader will still function OK???)

As for the C:\WINDOWS\WinSxS\x86_Microsoft.VC80.MFC_1fc8b3b9a1e18e3b_8.0.50727.762_x-ww_3bf8fa05\MFC80.DLL potential problem, I found it, but have not yet deleted it. I do not use Visual Studio. Therefore, should I simply delete the dll or the entire program? By the way, Revo cannot find Visual Studio.

The reason I began using the memory manager was that after about 4 hours of heavy PC use, about 60 - 90% of my RAM would be utilized and other programs began slowing down. Firefox seemed to be the biggest culprit. As far as I could tell, Windows was fairly ineffective, managing the RAM. After using MKN, I have not experienced that problem, and RAM is usually below 50%.

What do you think? Is the RAM consumption issue abnormal, and if so, any suggestions? The application was free; however, based on results, I'd hate to discard it unless sure it's causing a problem, because it seems to be solving another one.

I have not yet run sfc /scannow. With my current updates, would you still suggest it? If so, how likely is it to get into a situation I have a problem recovering from?
