We are in the process of deploying a ton of Dragon 10.1 installs with medical. At each site we have a storage box with the voice files which load onto the local user before use on the Windows XP box. These systems are dual caore 2.4ghz systems with 3GB of ram, and we are having what I would call performace issues. When speaking it seams like the words have a significant delay before actually seeing them on the screen.
While doing my research I read that you should turn up the "Speech Recognition to Maximum". I don't really understand what that is, or how to accomplish this as I cannot locate any "speed" related setting.
Any advice on this matter would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

Hi, I read the posts listed above and am not clear as to how they are meant to help. However, if the XP speech is installed, then I would recommend uninstalling it.
Also, have you upgraded user files from a previous version of Dragon? I have found this to caue performance and recognition issues. I always recommend our employees export vocabs and commands from the old version and then create brand new user files in new version, and of course, then import vocabs and commands.
Excessive noise from the internal components of the PC can cause dragon to lag due the need for it to work harder to distinguish what is speech and what is noise, so checking the audio quality is crucial. You can hear your voice back in the audio setup wizard.
This is good starting point.
Pax.
I have Dragon 10.1 installed, no windows xp speech recognition, all voice files are brand new. I think what is being looked at as lag is not the case. When you are dictating using dragon a yellow bubble appears with the words you are speaking, but does not actually insert the text until you are done speaking. I think this is being determined as latency because they are not actively seeing the words placed on the canvas as they speak them. Is there a way to have the words place directly on the "paper" rather than queing up then inserting all at once?
In Dragon 10 Pro, you can adjust Speed vs Accuracy from the Tools Menu >> Options >> Miscellaneous tab. You drag the Speed vs Accuracy slider towards faster response. This does allow the text to be placed on the screen faster.
Also, have a look in the Dragon help and search "if performance is slow". They have some useful tips.
