The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Microphone Troubleshooting in Vista with MSI motherboard running Realtek HD Audio

Tags: Logitech/MSI, Logitech Gaming Headset / MSI Motherboard, MSI K9N SLI Platinum, Realtek HD Audio
Alright I have an issue where my microphone is not working. It is a Logitech Gaming Headset (it is NOT usb) that is rated as Vista compatible but I don't recall the exact model and the box is long gone. I am plugging this into a system with an MSI K9N SLI Platinum motherboard running Realtek HD Audio with Vista 64-bit edition home basic. The rear jack works for my speakers but the mic is not working. None of the front audio jacks have ever worked correctly. The mic is correctly and firmly plugged into the pink mic port on the back of the case and the connection is not loose at all. There is no damage to the headset or the wires.

When I go into sound recorder no sound is recorded. If I try to set up a microphone for speech recognition through control panel it does not detect me reading the paragraph. In sound manager the microphone is shown as plugged in. It is not muted. The in line mute control on the headset is NOT on. Ive turned the mic boost up as far as it goes. Levels are turned up all the way as well (100). It shows as "working" in audio device manager. Recording volume is at full and not muted. None of the noise cancellation options are on.

Audio Driver Version: 6.0.1.5413
DirectX Version: 10.0
Audio Controller: HD Audio
Audio Codec: ALC888

I'm honestly at my wit's end. I don't have another headset to just swap out and I really don't want to spend $80 if there is a setting I can fix.
