Backup Exec Notification

I have Backup Exec 9.1.  I cannot get it to send a notification to a SMTP address.  I have tried using the server name and server IP address in the mail server field, and have entered 25 in the port field.  When I send a test, it says "a test notification has been queued for delivery", but nothing is ever received.  I am stumped.

Thanks.

Try sending email manually vis:

Telnet <smtp server> 25
ehlo madeup.com
mail from:<backupexec@domain.com>
rcpt to:<administrator@domain.com>
data
wewewewewewewer
wewerwerwewerre
.

The last line is a dot on its own followed by <cr><cr> (enter key twice).

I'vce only put what you type, if it comes back with something like "authentication required" you obviously won't get a chance to type all of the above. You may not see what you type since it won't echo back and you can't use backspace if you mis-spell.

Thank you Burns2007, that was a great solution.
I would have told you how to do that after you tried manually with telnet but you never got back to me on what response you got from a manual test!
