How can I use tapes which have been used with Backup Ecec to be overwriten with NT Backup.

I have A travan STT2000a with tapes which was being used with Backup Exec, now I want to reuse these tapes with NT Backup. NT Backup wont reconise the tapes, do these need to be formated? or how do I get NT Backup to reconise them?
