Backup Exec 11 d email alerts

I have configured backup exec to send alerts to an external email address from the adminisrator account of the local domain, but for some reason its not working. I have allowed exchange to send relay messages to external addresses, but cant seem to figure it out. Does anyone know the exact steps I need to go through to get this configured.

Thanks!

Thanks for the quick response, thats exactly what I was looking for..thanks !
You're welcome.

By the way, I was setting this up on one of my customer sites recently.  I just remembered a problem I ran into.... I couldn't get the messages to relay through my mail server (not Exchange).  It finally dawned on me that if I'm sending to a recipient that is local to the mail server (which I was), I didn't have to set up SMTP authentication.  You may not have to set up SMTP Authentication either.  In fact, skip that unless it doesn't work.  You may not even have to create the user/mailbox on the Exchange server.

I have configured v. 9.1 the same way and have also verified that "Allow all computers which successfully authenticate..." checkbox is checked, however, I am not receiving the alerts. In addition, I have v. 11d running on another server, on the same network, that I am receiving alerts from.  The only difference seems to be that with 11d you can Enable SMTP Authentication.

Any ideas?
