Can a active backup to Tape be paused and later resumed?

I have a ton of data that I am backing up monthly. However, I am running into an issue where my full backup runs into the next work week. The issue it is causing is my main system ends up fighting for disk IO against the backup job. Is there a way to pause the job, then resume it during a lesser busy time?
A little background. I am backing up 8TB. I have a LTO 3 Tape library that holds 16 tapes. The files I am backing up are highly compressed so backup exec isn't doing any compression. I am getting from about 1.5GB a min to 2GB a min job rate.
I tried the similar method to pausing backup to disk, by pausing the drive, but it continues to plug on. It may pause after it completes that tape, but it just started a new one so I have not seen if that will work yet or not. Start Free Trial
