How to specify a tape in library

We recently purchased our first tape library, a Dell TL2000.  I have not been able to figure out how to add 300 Gigs to the 1400 Gigs already on a pair of tapes.  This pair is our quarterly backup: the new 300 Gigs is the data from our SoCal office.

I tried placing tape 2 of the set in the I/O slot then moving it to the tape drive. However BackupExec 12d simply spit it out and backed the data up to a tape of it's choice. It was not a matter of overwrite protection being invoked: our overwrite lasts two days only.
