backup virtual netware 6.5 workload

i have a client that is backing up all of his workloads on a esx server using backup exec 12. He has netware 6.5 virtualized, and woudl ike to back this up as well. he wants to be able to build another esx server in case of a emergency and be able to restore all of the workloads is this possible. I believe it is but wanted to get some otehr opinions. Thanks guys

Yeah, it's possible...but why not simply VMotion it...

You have a cup of choices :

a) Just doing a VMotion, but you need to buy VirtualCenter and VI3 with Vmotion.
b) You can buy esXpress, Veeam, VizionCore, Platespin, or other software that backup your workloads
     automatically.
c) You can manually do a snapshot of your workloads than browse datastore and download vmdks
     (no automatic method).
d) You can use a existing script like VMBK

Always try your DR procedure and document it best you can, because when you are in fault you do not have the time.

we have platespin and we are using it to migrate the srever into a esx environment. But the client would like to backup the workloads and be abel to restore them in the event of a catastrophe. so you suggest the veritas on VM? let me know thanks

You need to separate the problem into two different :

a) Backup
b) Disaster Recovery

# For backup you can use the traditional method with backup agents.
# For Disaster recovery you need a tools to make automatic copy of your entire OS-only volumes.

You can choice from many solutions:

If you already have BackupExec use it for traditional backup.
If you already have Platespin for P2V you can buy the Platespin Forge appliance.
(In this case if you disaster you need the appliance to recover workloads and this can be an issue)

In alternative you can buy VizionCore or Veeam (that are only software) to backup and restore in case of disaster.

so with backup exec I can backup without a seperate module and restore back into the esx environment
