Thanks for your advice iamthecreator.
Sorry to hear there isn't a solution to this, using the version I currently have, but good to know this information so that I don't waste anymore time on this.

Browse All TopicsI am using Symantec Backup Exec 11d for windows. I am presently performing a full backup of my exchange server daily, writing this to disk which is later captured by a tape backup.
My question relates to the backup-to-disk portion of this process.
The backups, each day, are successful and each over writes the 'backup media' ( *.bkf files) created the previous day.
What I am noticing is: even though the Media is being over-written, each day a new set of 'IMG' files are being created and these are not being over written, nor are these expiring.
The Backup-to-disk folder on my local server is filling up and needs to be manually cleared out.
I had originally written a script to clear out all files in the IMG folders (*.log; *.delta; *.dll; *.txt; *.bin; *.edb; *.stm). This would run as a Pre Command to the backup job. This caused the Backup-to-disk drive to go off-line
The only process that currently works is:
a) I select each IMG set under the Media tab and associate it with retired media,
b) then to delete these from retired media,
c) then to delete the IMG folders in the Backup-to-disk folder,
d) then to stop & restart the Backup Exec services to ensure these changes are detected.
I would prefer to automate this process.
What I have done:
1) Created a Backup-to-Disk folder with the following properties:
a) Max Size = 250GB
b) Max number of backup sets per backup-to-disk file = 100
c) Max number of concurrent jobs for this Backup-to-disk folder = 5
2) Created a BtoD Media set with the following properties:
a) Overwrite protection = 1 hour
b) Append period = 1 hour
3) Under The settings found under Tools, Options, Media Management, Media Overwrite Options, I have set the jobs to over write recyclable media contained in the target media set before overwriting scratch media
4) I have set the backup job to:
a) use the backup-to-Disk device.
b) use the BtoD media set.
c) overwrite media when the job begins
Are there any further steps I can take to get this to work automatically?
Regards
Barry

Apart from upgrading to the latest version you cannot do much as there were issues with the IMG folder not being overwritten even when expired. These issues have largely been resolved in the latest release 12.5 SP2
