The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Errors in Backup Exec 12.5

Asked by sfjcpu in Backup Exec, Backup & Restore Software

Hello. I recently installed Symantec Backup Exec 12.5 for Windows Servers on a Windows XP Pro machine. I installed agents on all the Win 2003 and Win XP servers to allow for backup and have been backing up files and folders from all of these locations successfully. I recently decided to include the system state and shadow copy components from these server in with the backup, but ever since then, the backups fail with various errors:

"Job ended: Wednesday, September 02, 2009 at 11:35:05 PM
Completed status: Failed
Final error: 0xe0008488 - Access is denied.
Final error category: Security Errors"

Backup- \\VIPDC1.ntvipind.com\System?State V-79-57344-33928 - Unable to complete the operation for the selected resource using the specified options.  The Active Directory, Active Directory Application Mode (ADAM) or Active Directory Lightweight Directory Services (AD LDS) database was not found.

Backup- \\VIPDC1.ntvipind.com\System?State The .DR file that is required for Intelligent Disaster Recovery is not updated.

These errors happen for all of the servers that have Windows 2003 Standard installed on them. It seems to work fine for the Windows XP servers. Backup Exec still backs up all the files except for the system states and shadow copy components, but it says failed and management doesn't like that, plus backing those up could be very useful in the future. I've googled the error codes and checked the Symantec Knowledgebase but can't find anything that helps. Please help!
