That was my problem! Remote agents weren't running under domain admin accounts. Thanks for the help!

Browse All TopicsHello. I recently installed Symantec Backup Exec 12.5 for Windows Servers on a Windows XP Pro machine. I installed agents on all the Win 2003 and Win XP servers to allow for backup and have been backing up files and folders from all of these locations successfully. I recently decided to include the system state and shadow copy components from these server in with the backup, but ever since then, the backups fail with various errors:
"Job ended: Wednesday, September 02, 2009 at 11:35:05 PM
Completed status: Failed
Final error: 0xe0008488 - Access is denied.
Final error category: Security Errors"
Backup- \\VIPDC1.ntvipind.com\Syst
Backup- \\VIPDC1.ntvipind.com\Syst
These errors happen for all of the servers that have Windows 2003 Standard installed on them. It seems to work fine for the Windows XP servers. Backup Exec still backs up all the files except for the system states and shadow copy components, but it says failed and management doesn't like that, plus backing those up could be very useful in the future. I've googled the error codes and checked the Symantec Knowledgebase but can't find anything that helps. Please help!

2. Is the service account your using have exclusive Domain admin rights? Try adding that service account to the local Administrators group.
3. Try clicking on Start, Run, \\servername\share and see if you can access that share with the service account name.

2 things to check:
Remote Agent - make sure they are installed and running under domain admin accounts
Logon Accounts - make sure the job is running under a domain account login
