Ok, thanks just a bit nervous about a server that hasn't had backups running and installing something that also uses SQL.

Browse All TopicsAre there any conflicts if I need to install Backup Exec as a media server on a Sharepoint server running SQL 2005?
The entire purpose of the install is to shore up the fact there are no backups of the system, so needless to say I don't want to cause any issues on the box. I know that BE looks for or creates an SQL instance when it installs.

No Issues; You just need to check which version of SQL 2005 you're using. If it's express, then you're limited to 1CPU, 1GB Memory (I think) and a max of 4GB Database size which could be an issue for SharePoint.
Other than that, when installing BE, specify an existing SQL Server, otherwise it will install SQL Express as a named instance (SERVER\BEDB)
