Afraid that doesn't work
I cant just put them back in - they then stay with the same icon and Commvault complains no usable tapes.

Browse All TopicsI have backup to disk then to tape.
I was told by my IT support company that once the tapes reached a certain age they could be reused.
I was to check in the Locations portion of the tree and look in the offsite section
There it would show when the tapes are due to come back in to the office
Tapes due back in would have a date with a timer icon
However I have a bunch of tapes due in but not with the icon?
Why is that and how can I reuse these tapes please?

Hmm.
My understanding of it is once the tapes are written to you export them to Offsite Tape Location.
Then in a years time or whenever they become available for re-use
The icon should change to the egg timer one.
You put them in the tape unit and Commvault scans and reuses.
When you say import
Do you mean load the drive up, right click library & import media?
OK, I loaded the tapes in - Nothing happened
So right click library, import media
Finds the tapes. All still have the blue square
Go to Locations section- offsite tapes
Tapes listed as location being offsite but are shown ascurrently in Library
Right click a tape, properties
Location changes to slot 10
Try another one - correctly identifies slot
Hit refresh, all locations are set back to offsite tapes - no slots.
Dont understand.
If a tape has a return to date, whiy is the icon not changing
And why when I put it back i nthe drive is it not being recognised as no longer offsite
And why doesn't importing change the location to mact the slots?
Hmm. the way to get this to work is to right click each tape
Select delete, type erasne and reuse and move onto thenext one.
Support crowd reckon this is an "issue" with commvault.
It's not an issue on the other site where the tapes
Also can't right click tape, recall media - Need Vaultracker license (despite already having one)
Ah, there are two different types of Vault Tracker. One is standard that allows you to move tapes to an Offsite location. The other is Enterprise and allows multiple locations automatic movement of tapes etc.
New issue to me haven't come across that one before. Upgrade to v8 will help with that im sure.
My issue is somewhere along this line but a little different. I got tapes back from my off-site because CommVault says they are due back. I import the medai but my vault tracker for exporting spit it back out. I fear that I am overlooking something. Can some one point me in the right direction? Thanks, CED

Just put them back in to the tape library. CommVault knows that the data on those tapes are no longer valid and to reuse the tapes. I dont know why he told you about an icon for, unless that is what is in version 8.0.
