The tapes are all barcoded up.
The Mon1, 2 etc etc is for reference wihtin the spreadsheet I've created for the remote office location
where less computer illiterate users will remove and insert the tapes. Rather than running reports
they would perform better just taking out tapes 1,2,3 & inserting 4,5,6. Trust me on this one. I can run reports
fine, but dont want to run 2 reports every day just to tell them what tapes to change.
Also they (staff) are not desperately reliable so I want to know if I can force tapes 4,5,6 only to be written on Tuesday.
And not to write on tapes 1,2,3 which were mondays tapes - even if tapes 1 & 2 were written on and 3 wasn't touched.
I'm thinking of the future - now we write on 2 tapes. Next year it will be 3.
If I get them used to changing 3 tapes every day (regardless of how many are written) then it will make the future easier to handle.
There is not enough space inthe library to hold enough tapes for 2 weeks.
3 tapes a day. 10 days (over christmas say) - 30 tapes. Autoloader holds 15 + cleaner.
Perhaps if I uploaded the spreadsheet you'd see what I mean.

Hi,
I don't meant to be rude, but the way you are managing your tapes is completely wrong.
In CommVault you don't need to label tapes with anything except a barcode, let the software take care of what is on each tape and where it is. If you need to know what tapes to take out and bring back simply run a media report for tapes last written to and one for tapes that have expired.
CommVault will also continue to write to tapes until they are either full or have been removed from the library so you should be able to leave your tapes in there over the holiday so long as there is enough space. Keep in mind that CV will only use an existing tape if the backup job that is running is going through the storage policy that owns that tape. As in Storage Policies own the tape once it has been written to once.
You can also disable the secondary copy from running by going in to the Secondary Copy's properties in the Storage Policy and clicking on the option to disable activity.
I hope this answers most if not all of your questions. Please let me know if something is not clear.
