The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Ghost, Windows XP setup, and BSOD

Asked by jbyrd1981 in Norton Ghost Backup Software, Windows XP Operating System, Computer Hard Drives

I have a new Optiplex 755 that I loaded an image using Symantec Ghost which worked fine. I tried to reload Windows on this Ghosted machine using the Dell setup disk that came with it. However, here is the problem& After booting to the disk and it finished doing its initial load up I got the BSOD!!! I mean BSOD while setting up Windows through the setup disk, I never knew. Anyway I took the disk out and tried to reformat it in another machine but it wouldnt because it said it was in use but it was setup as a secondary drive. I ran the diagnostic on the machine and it said DRAM test failed on the optical drive. So I am looking at two things. 1) Maybe the Ghost Imaging did something to the HD so that I cannot format and load the OS from the restore disk. 2) The CD drive on this new machine has gone bad.

Anyway Dell is sending a replacement HD and CD drive. I am going to start by just replacing the CD drive first to see if that was only the problem. If it turns out that the HD is messed up then I am wondering if Ghost did something and is there any way to correct the issue? Most points who can answer this or provide some insight on what went wrong. Thanks in advance!
