The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

How DO I Re-Image a Laptop Using Symantec Ghost V8.0?

Asked by TonyCat in Norton Ghost Backup Software

Tags: PRESERVEDEST, User Error 676, Ghost V8.0

I have tried to RE-IMAGE a laptop using Symantec Ghost V8.0 boot disks to image the hard drive.  This to get rid of a popup error on bootup that no-one can help me with (Failed to Load Launcher dll - Alps touchpad related, I believe)  During the process the image file failed and hence nothing happened.

If I try to re-image the laptop I get the message:-

"The destination disk contains the image file.  To continue you may either preserve the image file or delete the image file at the successful completion of the clone.  How do you wish to proceed?"

Preserve          Delete             Cancel

If I press preserve or delete I get the error message:-

"A destination preserve partition must be specified using the - PRESERVEDEST switch if you are preserving files and more than one partition is being cloned." (Usage Error 676)

I have tried booting the laptop using boot disk (using Ghost V8.0) in order to image the previously saved image (made with same disk using Ghost V8.0) over the existing one with pop-up error.

Does anyone have any idea how I can rectify this problem?

Other users have posted this error... I copied their Question with some modifications (Thanks).  The "solutions" suggested to them were in fact not really solutions, but ideas meant to keep the thread going...  I need a REAL solution, step-by-step, so I can get past this error...  I am not very technical, so if you reply you can make the solution "for Dummies-like"  Thank you.  Tony C.
