The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Ghosted Dell Optiplex 760 Image, USB keyboard and mouse won't work?

Asked by strangej in Norton Ghost Backup Software

Hello All,

I've created a image of a Dell Optiplex 760 by the following steps:

1)   Installed a fresh copy of Windows XP Profession Service Pack 3.
2)   Installed all updates from Microsoft along with all buisness required programs.
3)   Used the answer file creation wizard to ask for PC Name and Admin Password.
4)   Syspreped the machine using Mini-Setup option then Reseal and shut down.
5)   Once the PC is shut down I used a netboot disk to get into ghost to create the Image.  We're using Ghost 11.0.
6)   After the image is finished creating I boot the 760 back up, it proceeds into the mini-setup with out issue, I'm able to progress through and get into windows with no problems.

My issue is when I drop this freshly created image onto identical 760's it'll hit the mini-setup and I won't have any Keyboard or Mouse support.  They are totally unresponsive and no amount of unplugging and replugging them in to different points yields different results.

I've also verified there is no pertinent settings in BIOS which could have an impact on this.  Does anyone have any idea's about this?  I thought perhaps the drivers to let the keyboard/mouse to work weren't properly being packaged during sysprep, but if that were the case the Base machine should have the same issue upon booting into the mini-setup.

I appreciate all suggestions

Thanks,
Garrett M.
