Arc Brightstor v11.5 Restoration error

I have Win2k Server installed Arc Brightstor v11.5 but it was failed to restore the data back up, even try to quick erase 1 tape it will takes too long time to proceed.  Is it need to reinstall from scratch , or should I need to remove the databases ?

If it is taking a long time to erase a tape I suspect a tape drive problem.

Have you tried a cleaning tape?

other wise try reading the tape on another machine if you have one. You would need to merge in the tape first.

is this a disaster recovery situation.

A quick erase should only take a couple of minutes, the long erase takes hours.

Have you installed ARCserve 11.5 Service Pack 3?

I already found the solution by upgrading the HP Ultirum Firmwire through its tape tools. (HP Storageworks and Tape tools). After those upgrading, the Arc Brighstore can back up data.

But then the other problem happen, everytime i made a back up (daily/weekly or monthly).
On the restore session,  there are always no Sessions available. Its always said no database sessions.

How to repair the restore session so everytime i backed up , it will automatically saved in sessions dtabase ?

Hi,

what is the size of your database. are using standard database shipped with arcserve or are you using Sql.  If it is standard database check under the program files/CA/brightstor arcserve backup/temp folder if there are any files in that folder.

Delete all the files in that folder and delete R*.* files in the database folder.

Before doing this stop all arc serve serivices, and restart the services.

Try to use the merge utility for the tape you want to restore. After the merge utility is complete check in the restore by session to see if you see all the files/folders

There are many routines for fettling a database but as your seems to have no details in it at this time I would go for the simple sloution of uninstalling and reinstalling arcserve.

Well before doing the reinstall consider initializing the database. If using the default then go to the ARCserve Server Admin, select the Database tab, Operation Initialize. If using SQL then use setupsql.exe to setup a new database.

Thank You All,

I combined all solutions as above:
  - Reinstall ArcBrightstor go get new database
  - Merge Database from Tape Slots
 
Also, I already try to remove all Temp folders and re-initialize the database but always failed.

Now, my back up system running smoothly.  1 question, how can I find the SP3 , because I am still using SP2 as original from CD ?

I got another problems
After 1 months of repairements, now I  realize that the license is gone!
Now, the software remaining unlicensed/trial and Job services automatically shutdown everytime I turn it on.  I already  tried to add license as it shown in the paper (expired march 2008) But it always failed and asking new license number.  

Also, SP3 I already downloaded can not be applied, when I clicked it, it has no response at all. Even the CD is completely downloaded and mounted to CD ROM.

I found the way to solve the problem, copy the file ca.olf from other typical server and paste into the server.

i am not sure how can the license file be single point of failure. The errors that were reported were happening when you were running arcserve unlicensed and for 30 days it should be running fine. You want to sheild away from awarding points that is ok. You could have requested to close the question in the community page
