Hi All,
We recently discovered the need to remotely backup our Exchange mailboxes to another LAN. The question is, are there any Open Source (or a way to program it in .NET or something) applications to do differential backups on the mail items themselves? Or, is there software that will look at a file (the mailbox store) and only backup those bytes that have changed?
We're trying to avoid purchasing Veritas and the Exchange module for each server.

so, it sounds like you are talking about brick level backups. at any rate, it sounds like you may not be familiar with exchange backup strategies.
storage level backups need to be done to commit and flush log files. as stated previously, brick level mailbox backups are a waste of time (imho), don't commit/flush log files, and are not needed if you know how to do a proper restore (should you need to restore data from a single mailbox)
if 'mailboxes are large' is a problem, implement limits. if its bad now, its only going to get worse, and make your life miserable. you should also be looking at the database size as a whole, as this will affect numerous things (backup/restore times, online maintenance, etc).

can you clarify a little?
ntbackup can do incremental backup. if you're asking about 'brick level backup', or backup of the individual mailboxes, experts here will tell you its a waste of time, its slow, and isn't needed anyway.
