Reading a backup tape across different servers
Hi,
Is it possible to create a backup tape using NTbackup (Windows server 2003 SP2) and be able to read it on any other Windows server 2003 SP2 machine under the same domain user account?
How will the NTbackup program on the new server recognises the tape.It has no entry for that in the local hard disk catalog file
Thanks

When you inventory the tape that has been backed up on another server it will be treated as an IMPORTED MEDIA on your other server
Simply CATALOG the tape and then run a restore
Simply CATALOG the tape and then run a restore
ASKER
I did not find the "Catalog" option using the >>computer management>>Storage>>remov able storage>>Physical location>>physical device>> option
I am selecting >>computer management>>Storage>>remov able storage>>Media and then there are many tape entries there.Only one seems to be active and I can only right-click the tape entry and select eithet Eject or Deallocate but no Catalog option
Thanks

Did you try to do a catalog of the tape.
you can do it by going to >>computer management>>Storage>>remov
This will merge the information on the tape and then you can perform the restore.
by default the restore will not restore the Share Definitions To Another Server.
To get this working following this microsoft article.
