The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Netbackup 5.1 Catalogs

I've got to say that some things in Netback are not exactly intuitive
- at least IMO.  In other words - I'm learning but I'm confused when
it comes to some things - especially how catalogs are backed up.  Our
current configuration is Media 1 is hcart - 1/2 inch Cartridge and
Media 2 is Disk on the Master server.  My first concern is that the
media for the tape backup has been mounted 800+ times without being
changed.  I'd like swap the tape out but I'm not sure how to do it.
Sure I can physically remove the tape from the robot, but before I
remove the tape I think there are other steps that need to be taken
first? Can someone give me some pointers?  The other question I'm
grappling with is that it's my understanding that catalogs for client
backups are maintained on the client.  Say a server gets fried for
some reason and I want to restore the system state along with the
files to another similarly configured server.  If the catalog is on
the fried server how do I restore the files?  Maybe the catalog is
also backed up to Media 1 or Media 2 above which I suppose is a
possibility depending how things are configured?  I just inherited
this whole thing, so like I said - I'm learning.  Your answers and
recommendations are definitely appreciated.
